Dunlop returns as title sponsor in 2010
Tyre manufacturer Dunlop will return as title sponsor of the MSA British Touring Car Championship from 2010, in a new four-year agreement with the UK’s premier motor racing series. Its sister company, HiQ – title sponsor for the past two seasons – will put its name to the BTCC’s coveted Teams’ Championship also through to the end of 2013 at least.

This latest arrangement will extend the BTCC’s relationship with the Goodyear-Dunlop group to 11 successive years. Dunlop has been the BTCC’s exclusive tyre supplier since 2003 and became title sponsor in 2005, with the nationwide chain of HiQ fast-fit centres taking over for 2008 and 2009.

Dunlop’s return as the BTCC’s title sponsor is actually a year ahead of schedule after HiQ’s association with the championship proved even more effective than anticipated in helping it re-profile its network across the UK. Its four-year commitment to sponsoring the Teams’ Championship will now enable it to continue to build on those results.

    BTCC: NGTC engine supplier revealed
The company that will supply the Next Generation Touring Car engines has been revealed as Swindon Racing Engines.
"Swindon Racing Engines came out on top of a very competitive tender process," said British Touring Car Championship series boss Alan Gow to Motorsport News.
By Ian Price Wednesday, 02 December 2009 16:39 CET
The Wiltshire based company was formed by John Dunn and has some 35-years of experience in many leading series, such as Formula 1, Formula 3, British Touring Cars and World Rally, amongst others.

Their proven track record in preparing race winning engines led to their selection.

"It [Swindon Racing Engines] has a long history of producing excellent, reliable engines and providing great competitor support," said Gow.

Motorsport News also revealed that Raphael Caille, a former Triple Eight Race Engineering engine man, will lead the engine programme at Swindon

BTCC: Jordan to drive turbo Vauxhall
Andrew Jordan is going to take part in the British Touring Car Championship 2010 with a turbo charged Vauxhall Vectra. The team is going to be the first to use the new NGTC specification turbo charged engine.
"I’m really looking forward to the challenge of next season. It’s good for me to be continuing with the Vectra," said Jordan.
By Johan Meissner Wednesday, 02 December 2009 09:07 CET
Jordan is going to drive for his own family run team, under the name of Pirtek Racing.

"It is a good feeling to be back involved with a car and our own team in the BTCC with Pirtek’s support. The package of the Vectra and the TOCA engine should be very strong and I’m sure Andrew can use his knowledge of the car to great advantage," said Mike Jordan.

While the NGTC rules are set to debut in 2011, the BTCC organizers TOCA have decided to allow a number of teams to use the new NGTC engine one year earlier.

"While some teams will undertake their own engine development programmes, this is the unbranded TOCA engine that is available for lease or purchase and, as we have already announced as part of the BTCC’s future, will significantly reduce their running budgets," said series organizer Alan Gow.

The car is going to be showed at the Autosport International Show in January.

Thorney Motors are also working on building a NGTC Vauxhall Insignia. If they are allowed they may race it towards the end of 2010, before a full season in 2011

I'm wondering if there is a change of title sponsors/ team name at WSR:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

If you read this, for the first time I can remember, the cars are referred to as "WSR cars" rather than "Team RAC cars" - wondering if they have a new title sponsor lined up - really unusual from what I can remember. Guess we will find out next week

    BTCC: Tech-Speed confirms Paul O'Neill
Team Tech-Speed/sunshine.co.uk is going to continue in the British Touring Car Championship with Paul O'Neill as driver.
"I’m just as excited as when things fell into place at the start of last season, only this time we can all go into the first round with a lot more experience," said team boss Chris Brown to BTCC.net.
By Johan Meissner Wednesday, 06 January 2010 11:56 CET
The team is going to continue with the older BTC specification Honda Integra's.

"We didn’t get the cars until the end of February last year, whereas this time around we’ll have had the winter break to work on them and prepare," said Brown.

The team is aiming to have two cars on the grid, with the possibility of a third car.

"With Paul on-board, we’ve of course got a driver who can offer a lot of experience and tuition. He’d be a perfect team-mate from that point of view," said Brown.

The best result of the team last year was a third place. For 2010 they are hoping for even better results.

"Of course it’d be nice to steal a win and Paul certainly has got what it takes to win. If we were to get a first win and it was with him then it would be pretty special," said Brown.

Found this on the BTCC forum - possibility of an independent VW Golf on the grid:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

    AmD BTCC VW Golf.
Our well kept secret is out, AmD are entering the 2010 British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). The really interesting news is that its chosen car is a VW Golf, a manufacturer unseen in the BTCC arena for over 20 years.

"We are really proud to be bringing the Volkswagen name back into top-line touring cars. We have been working on a plan to move up to the BTCC arena after winning the Dunlop Sportmaxx Cup in 2009 and a BTCC VW Golf is a perfect fit," said AmD's Shaun Hollamby. "The VW Golf is one of the UK's most popular cars and it would be great to see hordes of VW Golf owners cheering us on throughout the year!"

Further team sponsors will be announced over the coming months.

Hollamby will be the main driver and Simon Shaw, who won the Dunlop Sportmaxx title for AmD, is trying to raise the necessary budget to campaign the car at selected rounds of the championship.

The car is based on a MK5 VW Golf shell with a 2.0 16V normally aspirated power unit with a competitive 285bhp. Sadev sequential gearbox, KW competition suspension, Milltek exhaust, HJS Sports catalytic converter and Alcon brake and clutch parts complete the performance package.

"Starting with a new car package, we expect 2010 to be a gradual development season but I am confident I can get a few competitive results. Winning races is not a realistic target at this stage but, having won races in every series in which I have competed, I would like to think I can hold my own at this level," said Hollamby.

The AmD BTCC Golf will be on display at the Autosport and Pistonheads Show next weekend in Birmingham.

The first round of the 2010 Dunlop BTCC takes place at Thruxton, Hants in April.

Team RAC website has vanished, Jelley looks like he is wanting to top up his sponsorshiop funds:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

    'Scoop' of Jelley' scheme launched

Fans will have a chance to put their own messages on Stephen Jelley’s car in 2010 thanks to a novel initiative – called ‘Scoop of Jelley’ – that he will launch at next week’s Autosport International Show.

Jelley is offering three options – ‘Get A Scoop’ (bronze), ‘Jelley Legs’ (silver) and ‘I Scream’ (gold) – for enthusiasts to buy into. Contributions will go toward his 2010’s Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship campaign.

‘I Scream’ subscribers will be rewarded with performance driving tuition from Jelley. ‘Jelley Legs’ offers passenger ride experiences and ‘Get A Scoop’ is all about giving up a segment – or a scoop, as Jelley puts it – of his car’s livery for fans to place their message.

Many other benefits, including team workshop tours, also come as part of each option.

Jelley will announce full details – including costs – during the four-day Autosport show at Birmingham’s NEC where he will have his own stand in Hall 6 during all four days (Thursday 14-Sunday 17 January).

Those not attending the show will be able to find out more by visiting the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] website which is due to go live on 14 January.

Team KWR seem to have totally disappeared - no website or anything so doubt they'll be out this year, but read a rumour that Paul Luti has bought an MG (probably the old Turkington car from WSR) and is planning to race it with the NGTC engine in it.

Possibility of a pair of Abarths on the grid:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Scottish sportscar squad IF Motorsport are going to enter a pair of NGTC specification Abarth Grande Puntos in the British Touring Car Championship 2010.

"The Abarth is the most likley car that we'll run, but we are still taking to two other manufacturers," team boss Bryce Wilson said to Autosport.

The team is facing a tough time to get everything sorted ahead of the season.

"Obviously we know time's against us, and I think it's unlikely that we'll be ready for the start of the season. But I'm sure that with some decent testing in the bag, then we can be competitive once we do get on track," said Wilson.

No drivers have been signed to the team as of yet. But according to Autosport, Wilson is going to perform most of the pre season testing him self.

Wilson has previously been a Renault Spider Cup champion and worked as the Nissan test driver in the BTCC during the Super Touring-era.

Question marks should be raised towards the statement of the team to run a NGTC specification car as those rules have not been finalised yet and will not come in to effect until 2011.

    Stay tuned for more news!

I'd be pretty surprised if Turks, Plato and Neal are not on the grid at Thruxton with their expected teams.

I'm sure that Plato and Turks especially will be able to pick up a few sponsors between now and media day.
