Noticed this a few days ago, but slightly altered WSR livery, so presume that this will be the base livery presented next week with the extra sponsors that Collard is bringing with him and whatever (if) Turkington is driving with them:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Seen 2 Turkington rumours this afternoon, the first one is that he is going to Motorbase - which I would be surprised about, I would have thought Dick Bennetts would have handed Colin a drive and worked on getting the sponsorship later before he let that happen.

The second rumour which would fit in the the TCT entry list is that he will do a full BTCC season with WSR as well as selected WTCC outings in a BMW UK car.

Being a WSR fan I hpe its the second - or WSR in the BTCC with them having a WTCC outing or 2 with Colin. With Brands Hatch GP being round 3 this year, the BTCC guys can enter the WTCC Brands round if they want to.

I wouldn't have thought Dick Bennett's would have let Jelley go unless he was sure on Colin being in his car. Despite Jelley saying he went to PCC due to a lack of funds, I have to wonder if that was wasn't the only reason. (maybe that's just my wishful thinking)

No Colin Turkington in 2010 as it stands, although maybe this is a last ditch attempt to find him some sponsors:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

No Colin Turkington in BTCC 2010
It looks almost certain that we are not going to see the reigning champion in the British Touring Car Championship this year due to lack of funds.
"We have contacted close to 80 companies since christmas, but haven’t been able to secure anything like the funding required for this season despite the high profile of the BTCC and the 100-plus hours of television coverage the series receives," said Turkington to the Belfast Telegraph.
"It is a huge disappointment, but I suppose it is just a reflection of the difficult times all businesses are experiencing."

West Surrey Racing main sponsor RAC scaled down their involvement with the team significantly after the past season, something that has contributed to the fact that the team is unable to keep their champion.

"Motor racing at this level is a business, an expensive business, and while Dick has made it clear he wants me back in the team it has to be paid for and we haven’t been able to come up with the money," said Turkington.

This is the first time for seven year that Turkington is not going to be on the grid when the season starts.

"It means I won’t be defending my title when the season starts at Thruxton over easter weekend. I’m devastated to be honest — it will be the first time since 2003 I haven’t been racing in the BTCC, but never say never," said Turkington.

While things look grim at the moment, the reigning BTCC champion hopes to be back later in the season.

"I’m still trying my best to find the funding and West Surrey have a car there for me if something can be sorted out for later in the season, but even if that happens I wouldn’t be in a position to fight for the championship. After the highs of winning last season it is hard to get your head round the fact it is all over — for now at least," said Turkington.

The worst kept secret of the past few weeks is now out:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

    Chevrolet confirm Plato and MacDowall
RML have confirmed that "Silverline Chevrolet" is going to take part in the British Touring Car Championship this year with Jason Plato and Alex MacDowall.
"I always had confidence that teaming up with RML again last year would mean wins - the Chevrolet Lacetti of 2009 was a formidable piece of kit," said Plato.
The team is going to use the new Chevrolet Cruze in the championship this year.

"The Cruze has already shown itself to be a superb racing car in the World Touring Car Championship, so the decision to enter it in the most high profile series in the UK was made much easier," said Chevrolet UK director Mark Terry.

New to both the team and the BTCC is BRDC rising star and previous Renault Clio Cup racer Alex MacDowall.

"To compete in the BTCC has been my goal for some time, and it’s a great feeling to not only be entering the series this year, but to being doing so with such a competitive and experienced team as RML is a great opportunity for me," said MacDowall.

Plato is thrilled over the new programme ahead of the 2010 season and says that he is ready for the premiere.

"Now in 2010 we have manufacturer support from Chevrolet, continued support from Silverline and a very exciting new car in the Cruze. We are very motivated to make this our year, the opposition better be ready! Roll on Thruxton," said Plato.

Plato and the team came very close to taking a title last year, despite finalizing the deal very late, and is aiming to clinch the title in 2010.

"Last year we got tantalizingly close to taking another BTCC title. This year as we approach the first round at Thruxton, we’ve had a little more time ahead of us to plan and organise and in the switch to the Chevrolet Cruze, we are aiming for the title win.," said RML CEO Ray Mallock.

I notice Motorbase have the updated aero kit (and presumably engine to go with it) WSR and Forster still have the old aero kit on. The Motorbase livery looks like it's horrible though - the rear of teh car seems to be in yellow.

Motorbase still have a sponsor to 2 to add onto the car, WSR on the other hand, 1 or 2 extra smaller logos compared to last week but the cars are blank, looks like they are pretty much in the same boat as they were in 2004 where they ran the MGs with no noticeably decent funding.

Colin Turkington not being able to defend his title due to lack of sponsorship is not just f**king awful, it's disgusting, disgraceful and damned inhuman!

It makes me ashamed to be British... Embarassed

They've certainly done a lot of work in trying to find decent sponsors since Christmas.

Was too much to hope that BMW may help with support considering the good press they've had out of WSR the past few years, BMW UK probably get more out of the BTCC teams than they do out of Andy Priaulx considering the WTCC doesn't have the number of UK viewers the BTCC does.

There's still time, maybe we'll have a 2009 Plato-like announcement within the next 10 days about Colin, but I'd be surprised.

Saying that, his name is still on the WSR trucks - strange

    Pinkney: Right place, right time
David Pinkney believes he was in the right place at the right time to capitalise on Vauxhall’s withdrawal from the BTCC last Autumn. The BTCC stalwart returns to his own Pinkney Motorsport team this season, with an ex-works Vauxhall Vectra and the benefit of several Triple 8 team members for support, and he's looking forward to the experience.
“I’m pleased to be back with my own team and we are lucky that Vauxhall’s decision to pull out last year has allowed us to take on some of the guys who worked with Triple Eight last year and who know the car,” said the 57-year-old.

In Autosport this morning it mentions that Colin and WSR still have no deal put together.

The third WSR car is in the workshop, only 50% complete, it would be cutting it really fine now to get it ready and down to Thruxton in time if the funding was found now.

It's believed Colin's preferred option is for WSR to run him in the European WTCC rounds rather than the BTCC if they can find the funding (If he's not going to be able to do a full BTCC season then I guess that makes sense if they can find the funding)

    who's to be 2010 champion.....

    funny comment by Tim Harvey

Tim Harvey (Past BTCC champion and ITV pundit)
“If Jason Plato does not win the 2010 BTCC he should be charged with gross misconduct! He has the car, the team and certainly the talent and experience to get the job done. Only Alan Gow and the intervention of some anti-Jason sporting regulations can stop him.”

Giovanardi in for Thruxton - 1 round deal so far: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Lea Wood won't be out until Brand Hatch - which they mentioned pre-season anyway.

Both Forster BMWs missing this weekend, they had problems and had to send both engines to be repaired at Schnitzer after media day - and they haven't had them back in time for the race, but a 20 car grid is still good.
