    ETCC 2010

Post by Eurostc on Sat Dec 05 2009, 03:08

ETCC: Two tracks revealed for ETCC 2010
Two of the four tracks for the European Touring Car Cup 2010 have been announced by the FIA. The first race is going to be held at Braga in Portugal, just as this year. The final race of the year is going to be held at the new track Franciacorta, Italy.
By Johan Meissner Friday, 04 December 2009 10:34 CET
The premiere in Portugal is going to be run on the 28th of March while the finale is going to be run on the 17th of October.

The two remaining tracks of the ETCC 2010 calendar, in Germany and Austria, have not been revealed yet. But the Austrian race is most likely going to be held at Salzburgring, a track the ETC Cup visited in 2008.

The final calendar for the ETCC 2010 is going to be revealed after the FIA World Council on December the 11th.

One reason for the delay of the final calendar is reported to be the fact that the first dates for the races in Germany and Austria clashed with races in STCC and BTCC.

The Franciacorta track is located close to Milan in the north of Italy. The track is 2519 meters long and was finalized in 2008.

Provisional 2010 FIA European Touring Car Cup calendar

    28 March - Braga, Portugal
    6 June - TBA, Germany
    11 July - TBA, Austria
    17 October - Franciacorta, Italy

One thing that I always wanted to know is why the ETCC have so few races?
Why not a calendar with 10 races (at least) Twisted Evil

I think partly because it would take a lot of the independent teams away from WTCC and also I guess it would be difficult to schedule those races in without clashing with WTCC, BTCC and STCC etc in order to get a decent number of entries unless they ran them with the WTCC in Europe and had 1 or 2 stand alone events

    Perfection Racing aims for ETCC:

The Danish Chevrolet team Perfection Racing is aiming to participate in the European Touring Car Championship in 2010 and the new Nordic championship formed by the STCC and DTC.
"We see both of these initiatives as tailored for a national team that wants to expand like we do," said Michael Klostermann, co-owner of Perfection Racing.

The team, drivers and team champions of DTC 2009, took part in one WTCC race as well, something that gave them a taste of more international racing.

"I am convinced we are able to compete at the highest level, but it is a very, very big step to go from a local series as DTC up to the WTCC," said Kent Bo Steffensen, co-owner of the team.

As of yet, no drivers has been signed for the coming season, but negotiations are ongoing.

"Several drivers have shown an interest for our team," said Steffensen.

I don't Oscersleben that much - but I guess there isn't much they could do without clashing with anything else. Doubt we'll see any BTCC entries.

Those E46 BMW's are ex-Russian Bears Motorsport cars, it's clearly visible. They left some part of the stickers at the back.
#8 - seems like the old car from Tom Coronel.
    See some photos:

BTW, it would be more interesting if there were more cars from other European Touringcar Championships, we have STCC/BTCC/DTC/ADAC Procar/PTCC/BaTCC/Finnish Touringcar, Turkish (TTCC), Russian,etc.. And only a handfull show up. It's nothing compared to the 90's were the FIA organized a Super Touring World Cup raceweekend. It's maybe not the same idea, but they will have to get this more popular.

Unfortunately, last year BaTCC S2000 class were not participants. Even in Rata-SM (Finnish Touring Car Championship)was only 1 regular participant.
Do not know whether this year would be better pale

James Thompson flies to Braga pole position

While shattering the S2000 lap record by 2.1 seconds, James Thompson claimed pole position for the first European Touring Car Cup race of the year at Braga. The Brit claimed pole ahead of two BMW-drivers: Kristian Poulsen and César Campaniço.

The times were really close in the top three with Poulsen being beaten by just 0.071 seconds and Campaniço with 0.154 seconds.

Michaël Rossi claimed fourth position, ahead of Thompson's team mate Tomas Engström, both being beaten by over half a second by Thompson.

Marin Čolak, who topped the free practice earlier today, dropped to sixth position ahead of fellow SEAT-driver Timur Sadredinov.

    01 James Thompson 1:22.740
    02 Kristian Poulsen +0.071
    03 César Campaniço +0.154
    04 Michaël Rossi +0.661
    05 Tomas Engström +0.722
    06 Marin Colak +0.911
    07 Timur Sadredinov +1.256
    08 Ibrahim Okyay +1.813
    09 Yuriy Yprotasov +4.155
    10 Leonid Lprotasov +5.752

I expected Thompson to be further ahead of the others and surprised an Engstrom being back behind Poulsen and Campanico, I expect he'll be stronger in the races.

I wonder how much of a difference it made installing the Mugen engine from his cars - which are S2000 spec cars into the Hartmann car which is built to DTC spec and normall runs with the Neal Brown engine in it

Whilst there is a lack of cars, I think the racing could be quite good between the SEATs, Engstrom, Poulsen and Campanico, and Thjompson coming through in race 2 (assuming he's not taken out at the start of race 1).

Don't get to see the races in the UK until 4:30pm

Sounds as if Race 1 was rather close, race 2 seems more spread out judging by the live timings

James Thompson will race for Hartmann Honda at Salzburgring and Franciacorta.

Seems that they have agreed to go back to how things were before and go racing to try and at least keep their ETCC title

There was a half page article in Autosport Magazine about him being the development driver of the NGTC car and at the end was a small paragraph about how he had a deal sorted to race with Hartmann for the remaining ETCC races

I thought that the season is over for Hartman Racing. They did not participate Scandinavian TCC round in Gothenburg City Race(too expensive).
They did not participate, even on their home stage Jyllandsringen. But this is good news.

Update - only Thompson is confirmed for Hartmann so far - so it could be down to Poulsen vs Thompson.

Hartmann have been in contact with a ew drivers but no clues as to who will drive the second car if they do run it
