Proper article on the third Lacetti, also of interest is the line about RML running "a minimum of" 2 cars in the BTCC:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Another Lacetti confirmed, for Team ES Racing
Team ES Racing will be another team to enter the BTCC with a S2000 car for 2011, with former Mini Challenge racer Chris James on board, reports Motorsport News.
The car is one of the Lacettis which was raced in the Swedish/Danish Touring Car Championships last year, and the car will be run by James under the Team ES Racing banner.

When Bamboo Engineering finalises their BTCC plans, there will be three Chevrolet Lacettis on the grid, after none were in fact raced last year despite the competitiveness of the car in 2009.

Engine support will be provided by RML, which are expected to run a minimum of two Cruzes in this year's championship as Silverline Chevrolet.

James competed in the Mini Challenge series last year, finishing in 12th place overall.

The entry deadline date is this Friday for entries - so we should get RML and Arena news soon, maybe the news is embargoed until tomorrow so it's included in Autosport?

WSR's truck still has Turkington's name on the side of it (as it did last year), along with Collard and Foster, considering the number of possible entries for this year I wonder if he will appear on the initial entry list when it is released.

Surely we have run out of surprises now - but there are still a large number of seats available to drivers.

Jason Plato confirms Chevrolet drive for 2011
Jason Plato has confirmed to Motorsport News that he is going to continue in the British Touring Car Championship 2011 for RML Chevrolet with a new one-year deal.
The Chevrolet driver says he is aiming not only to defend his title, but also to become the first driver ever to hit 70 victories in the BTCC. Plato is currently equal with Andy Rouse on 60 victories.

"With RML behind me, I don't see that there's any reason why we shouldn't be looking to dominate the championship and that will take me towards 70 wins," said Plato to Motorsport News.

Plato is going to drive an updated Chevrolet Cruze in the championship this year, the same one as being used by Yvan Muller to clinch the WTCC title last year.

The 43-year-old racer from Oxford claimed his second BTCC title last year for Chevrolet, 31 points ahead of Honda's Matt Neal.

    cheers

    Macdowall seals Chevy seat
Cumbria’s Alex MacDowall has re-signed to race for the factory RML/Chevrolet team in 2011’s Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

The 20-year-old from Carlisle was twice on the podium in his debut BTCC season last year and also achieved two outright pole positions in his RML-Chevrolet Cruze as team-mate to eventual champion Jason Plato.

Phil Glew is testing for Arena this afternoon, people on other forums seem pretty certain that there will be 3 AON cars out for Round 1 - so read into that what you like.

Dave Newsham should also be announced for Geoff Steel Racing as well in the not too distant future.

According to twitter murmurs also, there may only be one Rob Austin Audi out this year - with Rob Austin driving the car himself.

I will update the entry table this evening with the latest bits.

    • I included Andy Neate as confirmed as Mike Earl has said something in an interview that virtually confirms it.

    • I've put Forster Motorsport back down to provisional as ES Racing have bought the Forster Motorsport transporter, which seems rather strange, and there has been no sign of teh Forster truck driver who normally posts on the BTCC forum

    • Speedworks have ruled out running a second car this year

    • Techspeed hasn't confirmed entry yet, although both cars being painted purple and delivered to Techspeed make it seem pretty certain

Newsham announces GSR driveReigning Renault Clio Cup champion Dave Newsham will join the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship grid in 2011 in a BMW entered by the returning Geoff Steel Racing team.

Scotsman Newsham made the announcement this evening with an accompanying interim artist's impression of his 2011 car. Notably, his BTCC debut in a BMW means a return to rear-wheel-drive machinery in which he has previously proven himself with front-running form in both the Scottish and National Legends championships.

The 43-year-old Inverness racer said: “I am delighted to have secured this drive, although I don’t think it has fully sunk in yet. We had a fantastic 2010 season winning the Clio Cup title. However, I am under no illusions – this is a big step up for me and moving back to rear-wheel drive will take some adjusting to.

“The car makes a big difference in the BTCC and I hope that Geoff Steel Racing can give me a competitive package. If they do, then I am sure we will be up there... We are not doing BTCC simply to make up the numbers. I have never completed a season’s racing without winning at least one race, so my aim is to keep this record going.”

GSR team manager and former BTCC racer himself Martyn Bell commented: “Personally I have admired Dave’s professionalism and driving ability for some time now, making me really look forward to some giant-killing performances this year. It’s great to have him on board.”

Two full test days are planned soon allowing Newsham to become acquainted with the BMW followed by additional running at the BTCC's pre-season Media Day event at Silverstone on 24 March.

Both Rob Austin Audis are currently being built at GPR, The team have said that barring any unforseen problems, both will be out for Media Day.

On the Forster Motorsport thing, it appears that they have ordered a new truck, which is why Chris James has the old one. So they are still on for entering this year

    Update from Rob Austin Racing:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Rob Austin Racing confident of Audi package

New BTCC team Rob Austin Racing is confident their new Next Generation Touring Car specification Audis will be a highly competitive package, with one driver now in place for the season.
The team will compete with a pair of Audi A4s built to the new Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) regulations this year, bringing the total of full NGTC-specification cars to four, which will all be built by engineering company GPR Motorsport.

Team Principal Rob Austin confirmed to TouringCarTimes they will have at least one car available for the media day test at Silverstone on March 24th, which will be the first time the car will take to the track, with both cars certain to be ready for the season start at Brands Hatch on 3rd April.

"I honestly believe we have the best package,” said Austin.

"You ask any driver, and if he gives you an honest answer, rear-wheel drive is the way to go, especially with over 300bhp."

GPR Motorsport’s background with Audi is what has made this arrangement with Rob Austin Racing possible, which has allowed them to go a different route from the front-wheel drive Toyota Avensis model.

Although the standard drivetrain of an Audi A4 is either front-wheel or all-wheel drive, because the car has a longitudinally mounted gearbox, the car will be permitted to run in rear-wheel drive configuration. This means at present it will be the only turbocharged entry to do so in the 2011 BTCC. All of the other rear-wheel drive cars are ex-WTCC BMWs, which are expected to run with normally aspirated Super 2000 engines.

The main concern for the team will be the lack of testing which is likely to hamper them in the early rounds of the championship. Austin pointed out this was an issue for all of the teams running with the new NGTC cars, with Dynojet Racing and Speedworks Motorsport still waiting to receive their cars.

The team have one driver signed up for the 2011 British Touring Car Championship season who will be announced shortly, with talks in progress with another, with Austin confirming again that he has no intention to race himself this season.

The team’s engine development is well underway, with Ric Wood Motorsport building the team its own 2.0 litre turbocharged NGTC engines.

    Four drivers test STR Leon
No fewer than four drivers – including 2010 title protagonist Tom Onslow-Cole – tested Special Tuning Racing’s SEAT Leon at Silverstone last Friday as the squad continued its preparations ahead of the forthcoming Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season.

Onslow-Cole, fourth in last year’s BTCC, joined Martin Depper and the squad’s 2010 driver Tom Boardman, plus Porsche Carrera Cup racer Mark Hazell at Silverstone.

Pinkney set to race for Rob Austin Racing
Dave Pinkney will be back in the British Touring Car Championship this year at the wheel of one of Rob Austin Racing’s new NGTC-specification Audi A4s, reports today’s Motorsport News.
Rob Austin Racing are still waiting to take delivery of their new car, being built by GPR Motorsport that have developed the first Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) Toyota Avensis, but as reporting by TouringCarTimes last week, expect to be able to run the car for the first time at the season’s media day launch on March 24th.

Pinkney drove for his own team with an ex-Triple Eight Vauxhall Vectra last year, powered by the new TOCA NGTC engine. For this year, Pinkney will again have the opportunity to race with a turbo, but this time with an Audi TFSI engine which is being developed by Ric Wood Motorsport.

Pinkney also told Motorsport News the car will run in Audi’s official colours during the 2011 BTCC season. Rob Austin Racing were still in negotiations as of last week for a second driver.

James shakes down Lacetti at Donington
BTCC newcomer Chris James has given his new Team ES Racing Lacetti a shakedown run at the Donington Park circuit in Leicestershire on Tuesday.
The former MINI Challenge driver familiarised himself with the Lacetti, the car which came close to winning the 2009 British Touring Car Championship in the hands of Jason Plato.

James was running in the session on used Yokohama tyres which had come with the car from the Swedish Touring Car Championship.

According to Autosport this morning, Motorbase have abandoned running a third car as they have only just received it from Arena.

Tom Onslow-Cole hasn't been ruled out of appearing at Special Tuning, or returning to Team Aon!

If he goes to Team Aon, then Phil Glew would have to go somewhere else I presume, seeing as Neate is signed even if it hasn't been officially announced

Great news to have Tom back, pleased that its not at Team Aon after last year. Pretty clever move by AmD.

According to a few posts on twitter, there may still be a surprise or 2 to come, although I doubt any will be as big as this one.

GSR will announce a second driver on media day, still no word from Forster, STR or bamboo yet either
